Chapel update

Chapel Gable End The Banister Chapel in Shuttlewood is the group’s largest asset and the location for scenery construction and storage for props and costumes. Over the past four years we have been working towards restoring the building, which is over 100 years old, in order so that we can continue to use the facility for many years to come. Our focus for the next few months is to concentrate on a number of repairs to the exterior of the building, starting with some damage to the gable end as a result of the bad weather over the winter. If you, or someone you know, would be willing to provide expertise, time, equipment or materials to assist us with the repair of this part of the building please contact the group by calling 01246 827297 or by emailing us .  We would be willing to display your name or the name of your company as part of our Front of House display, programmes and publicity communications for our subsequent productions as a thank you. We have a number of other projects we

Nominations received for NODA awards

We’re proud once again to be nominated in two categories for the 2012 NODA East Midlands awards, which will be presented at the NODA East Midlands AGM and awards day on Sunday 2nd June. We have been nominated for best pantomime for region 2 for our production of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and best play, region 2, for ‘Off the Hook’. The chance to be nominated for awards such as this is one benefit we gain from being affiliated to NODA , the National Operatic and Dramatic Association, who also offer advice, information and workshops to amateur dramatics groups throughout the country. Keep an eye on our website,  Facebook page and Twitter feed to find out how we do. For a full list of our awards and honours please visit our awards page .

Sponsored Walk

Image
Members of the group after completing the sponsored walk On Sunday 3rd March members of Bolsover Drama Group took part in our sponsored walk to raise money for the group as part of our fund-raising efforts. Despite the poor weather we encountered earlier in the year, we were lucky to have a morning of sunshine as we set off for the 10 mile round walk, taking in the beautiful scenery of the Peak District. Setting off from Bakewell we headed towards Edensor and the Chatsworth Estate, before stopping off for refreshments in Rowsley and heading back for a well-earned drink in Bakewell. Thanks to all those who took part or sponsored us for what was a great day out. View photos from the sponsored walk here

There’s no business like snow business

A hard morning’s work completed as the snow is cleared from the Bolsover School car park Despite the bad January weather we managed to battle the elements and perform all the scheduled dates of our 2013 pantomime ‘Treasure Island’ (although we did have to open without the benefit of a dress rehearsal, which was called off due to the weather). The Friday of show week saw the wintery weather take a turn for the worse with heavy snowfall greeting the cast as they left the school following the performance (some members had to stop the night at friends in Bolsover rather than attempting to travel home – luckily the Blue Bell were on hand to keep us warm with a post-show drink). Although we woke to a thick coating of snow we were able to ensure the matinee performance took place as planned as members and friends, armed with snow shovels, joined the caretaking staff of the Bolsover School and Mr F Tinsley, a local farmer who arrived with his tractor, to clear the car park and walk-ways for th
