Ray and Janet Atkinson are made honorary members

Ray and Janet Atkinson are presented with their honorary membership by co Vice-Chairman Chris Peck (left) and Chairman Mick Whitehouse (right) At the rehearsal for Treasure Island on Thursday 29th November 2012 two of our members were presented with honorary membership of the group. Ray and Janet Atkinson, who have been members of Bolsover Drama Group for over 20 years, were presented with the honour prior to relocating in Cornwall as a thank you for their years of service for the group. Janet spent twenty years as secretary of the group, as well as taking time to help organise props, prompt and help backstage. Ray had a number of lead roles in productions, including Fagin in ‘Oliver’, Tevye in ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ and most recently Charlie Davenport in last year’s production of ‘ Annie Get Your Gun ’, as well as helping out with set construction and backstage. We would like to wish Ray and Janet all the best for their new life in the South West.  

Kieran Buck wins the Jack Elliott Trophy at the 2012 Youth Section showcase night

Keiran Buck (centre) receives the Jack Elliott Trophy from group Chairman Mick Whitehouse and past winners (from left) Laura Hulett, Lianne Brunt, Dale Shaw and Leanne Whitehouse     The Youth Section showcase night was held on Saturday 17th November 2012 at the Bolsover Assembly Rooms. A sell-out evening saw members of the youth section perform a version of Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’, produced and directed by members of the Youth Section, followed by singing, dancing and piano-playing performances. The evening was concluded with the presentation of awards for attendance and long service and the Jack Elliott Trophy. The Jack Elliott Trophy recognises a youth member or youth members who have over a number of years continually demonstrated commitment to the group, an Excellent attendance record, excellent attitude and excellent behaviour – the decision on who receives this award is made by the people who work with our youth section. Chris Booth is made an honorary member

Chris Booth is presented with his honorary membership by (from left) Guest of Honour Pat Sabin, Chairman Mick Whitehouse, Vice Chairman Steve Sowerby and Co Vice Chairman Chris Peck Our former treasurer Chris Booth was recognised for his service to the group by being made an honorary member at the 2012 Annual Dinner and Dance. Chris was treasurer of the group for over 20 years before stepping down from the post at the 2011 AGM. The presentation was made to recognise his hard work and dedication to the group following his announcement that he would no longer be an active member although he still helps out as one of the Front of House managers for our productions.

Our 16th Annual Dinner and Dance was held on Saturday 26th May 2012 at the Grassmoor Golf Centre, and was another successful and enjoyable evening for the group. An enjoyable evening was rounded off with presentations for long service to a number of our members, with Leanne Barlow, Dawn Blackburn, Hannah Bradford, Lianne Brunt, Lisa Brunt and Dawn Shearwood all being presented for 10 years service to the group, Wendy Blunt, Julie C

High School Musical 2 is cast

The auditions for the Bolsover Drama Group Youth Section production of High School Musical 2 took place on Sunday 10th February. The production team found casting a very difficult decision – the production could have been cast in many different ways and there were 72 auditions for 14 parts. As always there will be many youth section members disappointed – but they all did very well – and there are many stars waiting in the wings for many future roles.
